we are happy to offer a new workshop in collaboration with hand-spinning aficionado Diana Twiss. you will have the opportunity to reclaim and transform the delicate yarn of a cashmere sweater into a plush 4-ply yarn using a drop spindle. this collaboration invites you to a deep exploration into the art of reclaiming yarn. to get ready for the workshop, you will need to have two things ready at the start:

in preparation, you will need to unravel a fine knit sweater. this sweater can be from your own closet, a second hand store or from our studio online. (note: if you'd like to make a multi-coloured 4-ply yarn, you will need more than one sweater.) to guide you in the task of unravelling, we have created instructions and a video tutorial. these will be sent via email and are included in the workshop registration fee. unravelling a sweater is a meditative and patient task, so we encourage you to start well in advance of the workshop.

if you don't already own a drop spindle, you will need to borrow or buy one in addition to the workshop fee. Diana has given great advice here, on what kind of drop spindle to consider buying if this is your first spindle, as well as a number of spindle makers from whom you can purchase one. of course, your local yarn or knitting shop may carry drop spindles as well!

Diana will be teaching this workshop online, via zoom, in two 2-hour sessions:
wednesday May 24th , 7 - 9 pm
sunday May 28th, 1 - 3 pm
all times are in EST.

our teacher, Diana Twiss is an experienced fibre arts instructor with a background in adult education and fine art. passionate about fibre, fabric, colour and texture, she has introduced many beginners to the wonders of making yarn and has helped experienced spinners take their spinning to a new level. she especially loves spindles because of their simplicity, beauty and portability. living in the lower mainland of British Columbia, Diana is a regular fibre arts instructor for the Langley Weavers and Spinners guild as well as an instructor in community leadership at Capilano University.

we hope you will join us for this workshop!
